DNA Memory Series:
Ancient history, myth and experience are the foundations of this conceptual body of work.
My work explores ancestral roots and DNA memory. Genetic recollections, created thousands of years ago by people I feel an inexplicable affinity with.
I grew up in the west of England, not far from Glastonbury Tor. The hills around my village were dotted with ancient Tumuli, a large stone Celtic cross stood beside the 10th century church, and everyone knew to tread carefully in the woods so as not to disturb the 'fairies'.
In this body of work I distill my visual memories, along with the physical and emotional responses to a number of ancient Palaeolithic and Neolithic sites. These sites call to me, drawing me in suggesting a prior, and in some cases intimate knowledge of place.
This work is an innate desire to express something way beyond rational reality. It is a desire to explore a sense of place that stretches back over 10,000 years.
